Rovinj is a densely packed medieval town on a parcel of land that juts out into the
Adriatic. When the town was established by the Romans, Rovinj was an island. In the 18th
Century the channel separating the island from the mainland was filled in and Rovinj
became part of the mainland. At the highest point in the town is the Cathedral with its
huge bell tower that dominates the town's skyline. The main square with the old Town
Hall and Balbi's Arch, has one side opened to the harbor. Along the harbor are some
pleasant restaurants and cafés, and offshore is a group of small islands.
On the south side of Rovinj is Zlatni rt Park, with a green space and beaches.
The Rovinj harbour front area has so many restaurants that it is hard to choose where
to eat. There are also many smaller eateries and pizzerias on the walk up the church.
From amazing seafood and Italian food to fantastic grills and even a Mexican food
restaurant the food choices are endless. If you are looking for nightlife the harbour
side area is the place to be in the evening, as there are many clubs and bars that stay
open until dawn. The Rovinj harbour side cafés are also a great place to relax
and watch the sun go down and the town life pass by.
Nearest airport Pula distance from Rovinj about 36 km. There is a regular bus service
to Rovinj from Rijeka and Pula as well as from Zagreb, croatian capital.
Also, one can easily reach Rovinj from Venice or Trieste in Italy. There are numerous

Rovinj is one of the most developed seaside resorts in Croatia, offering a whole range
of visitor opportunities in a picturesque ambience of the ancient town, surrounded by
luxuriant pine forests (the cape of Zlatni Rat is designated as a park forest, while
the coast and islands of Rovinj are set aside as a protected landscape).
The Lone Bay beach has become the most frequented beach in Rovinj. This pebble beach
is ideal for children and seniors who can easily enjoy swimming, playing and sunbathing
without fear. A few meters from the shore, you can find shade under thick tops of
centuries-old trees, and there are two snack bars at the beginning and in the middle
of the bay.
The Valalta Naturist Camp was established at the end of the 1960s on the tame slopes
stretching along the northern coast of Rovinj. During its four decades of existence,
the camp's name, Valalta, has become a synonym of unquestionable quality among lovers
of this sensitive tourism branch.

Cathedral of St Euphemia
Dominating the town of Rovinj is the Cathedral of St Euphemia (Katedrala Sv. Eufenija).
This 18th Century Baroque cathedral is Istria's largest Baroque building. The Venetian
bell tower, which extends high above the Cathedral roof, is 62m high and can be seen
from everywhere in Rovinj. On the top is a statue of St Euphemia.
The Cathedral contains the remains of St Euphemia, who was fed to the lions in the early
4th Century because of being Christian. Her remains were placed in the small church which
stood on this location before the Cathedral was built.
Balbi's Arch Description
The Baroque Balbi's Arch is built on the location of the former town gate of Rovinj,
next to the Town Museum. It was built in the latter half of the 17th Century. The
elaborate arch is decorated with the carved head of a Turk on the upper portion of the
outer wall. The inner wall contains the carved head of a Venetian. Over the arch is the
Balbi family coat of arms and a relief of the Lion of St Mark, the symbol of Venice.
