Trogir, panorama Trogir, the center of the Trogir Riviera is a town with approximately 13000 inhabitants, situated in the heart of Dalmatia, 20 km west from the city of Split. The Adriatic tourist road is located in its immediate vicinity and connects it well with neighboring places: Kaštela, Solin, large center - Split, and smaller municipalities: Seget, Marina and Okrug (on the island of Ciovo) which were once part of this Riviera.
Connection to the Zagreb-Split modern motorway distants 17 km.

Trogir was first settled by the Greeks around the 3rd century BC. They called the town Tragurion, which roughly translated as Goat Island. Since then many different cultures have come - the Romans, Venetians, the French led by Napoleon, Austrians, and of course the Croats - each leaving their imprint on the island. Together they've created a rich historic and cultural mosaic along the Adriatic coast.

Trogir is a town-museum in the very meaning of the word. Lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and nice alleys are given the opportunity in Trogir to learn about the manifold and complex heritage - from the Romanesque yard to the modern interiors. The unique historical core, Radovan's portal, the art collections which have been arousing excitement among visitors and travellers for centuries offer a tourist beauty, personified in the relief of Kairos as an appropriate souvenir. The wider surroundings of Trogir (Trogir - Seget - Ciovo Riviera) is characterized by lavish green vegetation, numerous islands and islets, rocky and pebble beaches. Apart from the high quality accommodation - hotels, boarding houses, apartments, campsites, delicious domestic food, fish dishes in particular, the sports and recreation, offer includes many opportunities - tennis, boules, bowling, jogging, surfing school, diving. Entertainment includes lively fishermen's nights and folklore show but also classical music concerts in special scenic sets of the town.
Trogir, Old Center
A statue of St. John, Trogir's patron saint, stands at the town's northern entrance, welcoming visitors. Before the 19th century the entire islet was secured within city walls. Today only the medieval core is fortified.
On one side of the square stands the 13th century St. Lawrence Church. This is a local landmark; its carved Roman portal, dating back to 1240, is one of the most prestigious works of art in Dalmatia. The elaborate portal displays Adam and Eve, sculpted to perfection, along with a number of saints and other biblical characters. Visit the interior of the Cathedral is highly rewarding, as it is known to hold precious works of art.

Did you know? - entire Old city core is under protection of UNESCO world heritage? Trogir monuments, buildings and work of Art are selected (in 1997.) between very few cities in the World to represent world's culture and art treasure. It is a remarkable example of urban continuity. The orthogonal street plan of this island settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period and it was embellished by successive rulers with many fine public and domestic buildings and fortifications. Its beautiful Romanesque churches are complemented by the outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period.

What to see?
The Cathedral of St. Lawrence
The Cathedral of St. Lawrence (Croatian: Katedrala Sv. Lovre) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Trogir, Croatia. It was built between the 12th century and 17th century, serving as the most imposing monument in the city of Trogir. Trogir cathedral, most of it completed in 1251, is the most archaic in the construction of its interior arcades: the two aisles are separated from the nave by massive elongated pylons. A thick wall pierced with arched opens an early Romanesque method. Only one of the two planned towers (the southern), was raised. Since its construction lasted several centuries, it illustrates all the styles that succeeded one another in Dalmatia.
The Croatian architect Master Radovan worked on the cathedral's gateway (main west portal) early in its construction. Other significant artisans who worked on the building were Ivan Budislavic and Grgur Vidov in the 15th century.

The monastery of St Nicholas
The female monastery complex, the Benedictine monastery of St. Nicholas - Kairos museum, whose monastic tradition dates from the 11th century. Collection of the museum includes Kairos, a Hellenistic marble relief from 1 st century AD, a running naked youth personifying the divinty of the 'fleeting moment' or 'lucky chance'.

Fortress Kamerlengo
Fortress Kamerlengo is situated at west end of its islet, built by Venetians in 13th - 15th century as a naval base for their navy forces in this part of Adriatic. It is named by town Magistrate Camerarius.
Nowadays, fortress is multimedia center with open air cinema and stage for various cultural events.

Old Trogir Center
Be sure to take a walk in the town's ancient core. An air of medieval romance still clings to the stones of these narrow streets. Follow the lanes as they wind around the town walls and relive their rich history.
There are many marina cafés, like the one under the palms and overlooking the canals. Trogir also sports a number of excellent restaurants, serving authentic Italian pizza, seafood, and pasta at bargain-basement prices.
